Say Goodbye to Payphones
December 5th, 2007 | by lsfloyd |I can’t remember the last time I had to use a public payphone. I guess it has been ten years or more.
With the ever increasing use of cell phones, the use of payphones has declined. This is why AT&T announced plans to phase out its payphones by the end of 2008.
For decades, before home telephone service became widely available and affordable, many Americans relied on public telephones. The number of pay phones nationwide has shrunk from 2.6 million to 1 million in the last decade. AT&T officials said they expect independent operators to pick-up much of this business.
