The Best Way to Use Text Messaging

Text messaging has become all the rage among high schoolers. But, even if you completed your coursework long ago, you can still benefit from text messaging. In fact, once you begin text messaging with your cell phone, you may wonder how you lived without it for so long.
To begin with, text messaging can serve as a lifeline if you still have children at home. This is because the messaging system can be a highly valuable tool for keeping track of your kids.
The reason is this: many teenagers have multiple commitments. They could be at band practice one minute and at work at the drive-through a few minutes later. At times, it can be difficult for parents to keep tabs on their offspring. Also, many teens are so busy that they're actually too busy to chat. With text messaging, you can find out where your teens are without having to engage them in a long conversation.
A survey conducted by AT&T showed that 63 percent of parents who send text messages to their children believe that it enhances communication. Also, 64 percent of the parents surveyed said that texting made their children easier to reach.
Psychologists have noted that not only teens, but also tweens and college students are not necessarily communicative. But text messaging appears to put them at ease, since it does not involve the spoken word. They may also feel freer to express themselves, since their messages won't be overheard by anyone else. Texting mom and dad can be less embarrassing for a young person than placing a phone call to their parents.
In response, cell phone companies have established some liberal texting plans, including unlimited text messaging between family members. AT&T in particular has provided parents with a tutorial for texting that can be quite helpful.
Text messaging can also be quite helpful during emergencies. During crises, such as the recent bridge collapse in Minneapolis, text messages can often get through when normal voice calls cannot. This is particularly true during peak volume calling times such as rush hour. Text messaging uses fewer cell phone company resources, meaning that texting is easier for a network to handle than calling is.
Still, if you're not used to text messaging, you're certainly not alone. To begin the process, you might want your son or daughter to help you figure it out. However, once you've become accustomed to it, you may find that it is one of the best means of communication around.
